Lifelong Learning Program

The mission of the Lifelong Learning Center at Henderson Hall is to stimulate the lifelong learning process
by effectively communicating the educational programs offered and to provide the requisite information, tools and support to the learning process.

Events & Tests


The following are events and other tests conducted or administered at Henderson Hall Lifelong Learning Center. Please call 703-614-9104 to schedule an appointment to attend events or take these tests (CLEP and DSST, please call 703-486-866.)

Credit-by-Examination

  • Military Academic Skills Program (MASP)
    Date: June 8–26 and July 6–24
    Time: 7:30 AM – 4 PM
    Location: Building 29, Room 103
    MASP improves competence in the academic skills of reading, communications/writing, and mathematics of active duty enlisted personnel. The program helps prepare Marines to retake the Armed Forces Classification Test (AFCT), increases their promotion potential, qualifies them for Officer Programs, and prepares them for college courses and to be eligible to use the Tuition Assistance Program. Prior Command Approval and the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) are required before the course starts.

  • ACT
    Date: June 23
    Time: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
    This test could be used for college admission or submitted for officer packages.  The ACT is comprised for 4 parts (Reading, Writing, Math, and Science).  Testing is available to active-duty military members only.  Allow 6-8 weeks to receive your score.  ACT or SAT is free once per lifetime. 

  • Annual Pentagon Education Fair
    Date: June 24
    Time: 9 AM – 3 PM
    Location: Pentagon Center Courtyard
    Air Force Education Center is hosting the Annual Pentagon Education Fair. This is a great opportunity for service members and DoD personnel to check out available educational opportunities being promoted through accredited academic institutions in the National Capital Region or through distance learning. Must have DoD Building Pass to have access to the Pentagon. For more information, call (703) 697-7074.

  • PRAXIS
    Date: July 28
    Time: 7:30 AM – 1:30 PM
    Location: Building 29, Room 204
    PRAXIS tests are used by some states as part of their teacher licensure and certification process and some colleges and universities use them to evaluate individuals entering teacher education programs.  The Praxis I and II test(s) are offered to active-duty military personnel only.  Although the test is funded once for the Praxis I and once for a Praxis II test, examinees must pay a non-refundable registration fee of $50.  Go to www.ets.org/praxis to find out more information about the test and individual state requirements.  The deadline to register for this test is June 16.

  • Armed Forces Classification Test (AFCT)
    Date: Every Monday
    Time: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
    Location: Building 29, Room 204
    The AFCT, formerly known as Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), consists of questions in nine different areas: General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Numerical Operations, Auto and Shop Information, Mathematical Knowledge, Mechanical Comprehension, and Electronic Information. AFCT is for active duty personnel only.

  • Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT)
    Date: Every Tuesday and Wednesday (Except June 23 and 24)
    Time: 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM
    Location: Building 29, Room 204
    The DLPT is designed as a standard test for determining listening and reading proficiency in a foreign language.

  • Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB)
    Date: Every Wednesday (Except June 24)
    Time: 8:30 – 10:30 AM
    Location: Building 29, Room 204
    The DLAB is used to test the general ability of a service-member to learn a foreign language.

  • College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
    Date: Every Wednesday
    Time: 9 – 11 AM and 1 – 3 PM
    Location: Building 29, Room 204
    CLEP tests are computer-based and used to grant exemption from and credit for specific college courses. Free to active duty/reserve personnel; for eligible civilians and veterans each test cost
    $70 + $20 administrative fee.  Interested persons MUST call (703) 486-8666 to register.

  • DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSSTs)
    Date: Every Wednesday
    Time: 9 – 11 AM and 1 – 3 PM
    Location: Building 29, Room 204
    DSSTs are computer-based and used to grant exemption from and credit for specific college courses. Free to active duty/reserve personnel; for eligible civilians and veterans each test cost
    $80 + $20 administrative fee.  Interested persons MUST call (703) 486-8666 to register.

  • Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)
    Date: Every Thursday
    Time: 10 – 11:30 AM
    Location: Building 29, Room 204
    TABE is a standard test designed to measure a Marine’s basic language, basic reading, and mathematic levels of proficiency. It is required prior to participation in the Military Academic Skills Program (MASP) and may be used to determine eligibility for participation in the Tuition Assistance Program.

  • College 101/Military Tuition Assistance (TA) Brief
    Date: Every Friday (Except June 26)
    Time: 9 – 10 AM
    Location: Building 29, Room 204
    CLEP tests are computer-based and used to grant exemption from and credit for specific college courses. Free to active duty/reserve personnel; for eligible civilians and veterans each test cost

    College 101 is an informational brief intended to provide advisement to Marines regarding college terminology and their educational responsibilities, as well as their financial obligations when using TA. In order to us TA, this brief is a mandatory requirement of the Marine Corps TA Funding Policy.
