Lifelong Learning Program

The Lifelong Learning Center at Henderson Hall provides adult education opportunities and services for active duty and reserve component Marines. In addition to counseling, education planning and financial aid information, Lifelong Learning offers the programs below.

Events & Tests


The following are events and other tests conducted or administered at Henderson Hall Lifelong Learning Center. Please call (703) 614-9104 to schedule an appointment to attend events or take these tests.

Credit-by-Examination

  • MASP
    Date: December 1–19
    Time: 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
    Military Academic Skills Program (MASP) improves competence of active duty enlisted Marines, prepares them to retake the Armed Forces Classification Test (AFCT), increases their promotion potential, qualifies them for Officer programs, and prepares them for college courses and to be eligible to use the Tuition Assistance Program. The Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is required before the course starts. The deadline to register for MASP is October 26.

  • SAT
    Date: November 3
    Time: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
    This test is often required for college admission and for officer packages. SAT is comprised of seven (7) tests (parts) and measures verbal and mathematical reasoning.  Testing is available only to active-duty military members.  Allow 6-8 weeks to receive your score.  SAT or ACT is free once per lifetime, per active duty service member.

  • ACT
    Date: November 17
    Time: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
    This test could be used for college admission or submitted for officer packages.  The ACT is comprised for 4 parts (Reading, Writing, Math, and Science).  Testing is available only to active-duty military members.  Allow 6-8 weeks to receive your score.  ACT or SAT is free once per lifetime. 

  • AFCT
    Date: November 10, November 24
    Time: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
    Armed Forces Classification Test (AFCT), formerly known as Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), consists of questions in nine different areas: General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Numerical Operations, Auto and Shop Information, Mathematical Knowledge, Mechanical Comprehension, and Electronic Information. AFCT is for active duty personnel only.


  • CLEP
    Date: Wednesdays
    Time: By Appointment
    College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests are computer-based and used to grant exemption from and credit for specific college courses. Free to active duty/reserve personnel; for civilians and veterans each test cost $70 + $20 administrative fee.

  • DSST
    Date: Wednesdays
    Time: By Appointment
    DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSSTs) are computer-based and used to grant exemption from and credit for specific college courses. Free to active duty/reserve personnel; for civilians and veterans each test cost $70 + $20 administrative fee.

  • Boston University Services
    Date: Monday – Friday
    Time: 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
    Course AD645-International & Advanced Project Management will be held at Henderson Hall from November 2 – December 21. Registration for this course is from October 20 – 31. If you have any questions regarding Boston University’s Graduate Programs and registration, please contact the college representative at (703) 614-1096.

  • Univ. of Maryland Univ. College (UMUC) Services
    Date: Every 1st & 3rd Monday and Thursday
    Time: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
    Registration is now and will end on the start date of the course for Online Session 4 (October 5 – December 20) and Session 2 (October 23 – December 18).   • Park University Services
    Date: Every Tuesday and Thursday
    Time: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
    Registration is now and will end on the Friday before the class starts for the 2nd Fall Term (Classroom: October 15 – December 16 and Internet: October 20 – December 14). The following are courses held at Henderson Hall:

    AC201-Principles of Accounting I
    CS140-Introduction to Computers
    MA120-Basic Concepts of Statistics

  • DLPT
    Date: Every Tuesday and Wednesday (in November)
    Time: 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
    Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) is designed as a standard test for determining listening and reading proficiency in a foreign language.

  • DLAB
    Date: Every Wednesday (in November)
    Time: 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.
    Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB) Test is used to test the general ability of a service-member to learn a foreign language.

  • Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) Services
    Date: Every Wednesday
    Time: 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.
    Registration is now and will end on October 22 for the Fall Term Second 8-Week (October 22 – December 21).   • College 101/Tuition Assistance (TA) Brief
    Date: Every Wednesday
    Time: 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.
    College 101 is a mandatory course for Marines regarding first-time Tuition Assistance (TA) users’ financial obligations, educational responsibilities when using TA, and college requirements and terminology orientation.

  • TABE
    Date: Every Thursday
    Time: 10 – 11:30 a.m.
    Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is a standard test designed to measure a Marine’s basic language, basic reading, and mathematic levels of proficiency. It is required prior to participation in the Military Academic Skills Program (MASP) and may be used to determine eligibility for participation in the Tuition Assistance Program.

  • PRAXIS
    Date: November 18
    Time: 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
    Praxis tests are used by some states as part of their teacher licensure and certification process and some colleges and universities use them to evaluate individuals entering teacher education programs.  The Praxis I and II test(s) are offered to active-duty military personnel only.  Although the test is funded once for the Praxis I and once for a Praxis II test, examinees must pay a non-refundable registration fee of $50.  Go to www.ets.org/praxis to find out more information about the test and individual state requirements.  Call 703-614-9104 to register 5 weeks in advance of test date.
