- March Mayhem, July Justice, and Fall Brawl Amateur Boxing Night
Held in Smith Gym, these “fight nights” are sanctioned events and draw between 300 and 400 spectators who appreciate the warrior sport of boxing. Refreshments are available for sale, and there is an after-party in Marine Club.
- Pre-Holiday Picnics
We hold picnics before Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day. Targeting active duty military members, these picnics send our Marines off before the holidays with safety messages and a good time. We provide the food and beverages, entertainment, and giveaways on the new Marine Landing deck. The picnics are free to Henderson Hall service members.
- Iwo Jima Memorial 7k Fun Run and Jingle Bell Jog
Our running events invite teams and individuals to compete for prizes. Refreshments are provided, and the command presents awards to the winners. The Iwo Jima Memorial 7k takes place in spring and runs through Fort Myer to the Marine Corps Memorial in Rosslyn and back. The Jingle Bell Jog ushers in the December holiday season with a run followed by entertainment, skits, and the opportunity to win cash and prizes.
- Children’s Fair
April is Month of the Military Child, which we celebrate with a children’s fair on a select Saturday in April. Drawing from our network of family child care providers and families throughout the National Capitol Region, we offer games, information booths, family friendly activities, and more. Everyone leaves with a goodie bag full of giveaways.
- Breakfast with the Clauses
In December we host Mr. and Mrs. Claus plus 120 kids and their parents, who come for breakfast, free photos with Santa, activities, and a story read by Mrs. Santa. Breakfast is “kid-friendly” and we provide free on-site child care for parents who want to do some holiday shopping at the MCX.
- Oktoberfest
Live music and authentic German food transform Marine Club into an Oktoberfest venue. German music and the smell of sauerkraut waft through the club as dancers take to the floor for the Chicken Dance. We offer a great time with contests and door prizes. Alle wilkommen!
- Tree-Lighting
Amid hundreds of twinkling white lights, we light the base Christmas tree in front of the Headquarters building. There’s music and caroling, door prizes, and a visit from the Jolly Old Elf himself, Santa, who comes bearing gifts for the children. Guests are invited to bring a toy for Toys for Tots, and our Marines in dress blues add a sense of excitement to the event.
