Tobacco Policy Update
Effective on 1 August 2020, the minimum age to purchase tobacco products and for the sale or furnishing of tobacco products, including electronic smoking devices, smokeless tobacco, cigars, and cigarettes changes from 18 to 21 years of age. It is unlawful for any retailer to sell tobacco products, including cigarettes, cigars, and e-cigarettes, to any person younger than 21 years of age in our CONUS locations and Hawaii. This applies to retail outlets on DoD installations and facilities within the United States and its territories and possessions, and on U.S. Naval vessels at a U.S. port.
When selling tobacco products, all MCCS locations must check a patron’s identification if his or her age is not known to be over 18, and if the patron appears to be under 30 years of age. All MCCS locations must implement this policy in support of federal law, and prepare associates to comply with the revised minimum age requirement.
